Perna does an excellent job of explaining the differences in the generations both where they struggle and what makes them amazing. This really opened my mind to some new perspectives that I was unaware of previously.
Formative Assessment By Dylan Wiliam- TThis book really makes you think about the “WHY” behind formative assessment. I used to think that a question was good enough to gauge the learning in the room, but now I know that it is just one way- AND may not be the best way. Thinking about why you are gather data and what you are going to do with this information is the key to formative assessment. This is a great resource for anyone looking to focus on learning more about gathering evidence of learning and making professional decisions on what to do next for students.
Lions of Little Rock by Levine- This is a great coming of age story of a young girl who is growing up in the 50’s. She is struggling to understand the world around her and why some rules do not seem to make sense. Marlee stands up for what is right, even when the trusted adults around her are not all doing the same. This is a great read!
Making Assessment Matter by Lesaux & Marietta- This book has me rethinking assessment and how it drives our literacy instruction. It really looks at what questions we are asking, what we do with the data, how often we reassess, and what excuses are we making that we did not realize we were making. Excellent way to start rethinking your literacy instruction!
Krista McGee's new books, First Date, Starring at Me, and Right Where I Belong- FANTASTIC! I love that there is an author writing books for Christian teens. These three books are based around Addy a normal run of the mill teen who struggles with her faith. She isn’t the main character in each part, but she is critical in two other girls finding Christ and Love. These are romance novels that show where God fits into a teenagers life. Beautiful and a must read of any teen struggling with their faith.
Hush-Hush is a sweet love story. It is well written and I really enjoyed reading it. It is predictable, but that didn't stop me from wanting to see how the author was going to get there. I will be recommending this book to teachers and my students.
Love Overdue- I can't wait for this book to come out! I have to go buy it to give to friends!! Love, Love Love this book. The small town setting, the mistakes that get righted, the journey of so many characters made it hard to put this book down. You find yourself following and cheering on more than just the main characters. Best book I have read in a while.
Once Upon A Prince- A modern day fairy tale written for adults or older young adults, really enjoyed reading this novel. Love the story line; similar to The Prince and Me, but I enjoyed this one more. Haick draws you in right away with a devastating heart break, you feel for the levelheaded Suzanna. Great job!
